Honor Troops in the Spotlight
Honor Troops have the opportunity to represent the council throughout the year while volunteering for special events or activities. This may include serving as color guard or hostess for an important public meeting or promoting Girl Scouts on TV.

Kohl’s Kids Who Care® Scholarship Program
Deadline: March 15, 2010

Kids, ages 6-18, whose volunteer efforts have made a positive impact on their communities may be nominated for this award.  The person who nominates a kid must be at least 21.  Prizes range from $50 gift cards to a $10,000 scholarship.  Visit www.kohls.com for more information.

Earth Island Institute: Youth Award for Outstanding Activism in Environmental and Social Justice
Deadline: May 15, 2010
The Earth Island Institute Brower Youth Award recognizes young people for their outstanding activism and achievements in the fields of environmental and social justice advocacy. Maximum award: $3,000; a trip to San Francisco for the awards ceremony on October 19, 2010; and a wilderness camping trip. Eligibility: youth activists ages 13-22.  Learn more here.

Do Something Seed Grants
Deadline: Rolling
Are you working to start a community action project or program? Do you need money to put your ideas into action? If so, you are eligible to apply for a Do Something Seed Grant. They give out a $500 Do Something Seed Grant every week to help young people just like YOU! Do Something Seed Grants are targeted towards project ideas and programs that are just getting started. These grants can be used to jump-start your program or to realize your ideas for the first time. These are grants for all types of community action projects around causes that you care about and are important in your community.  Learn more here.

President’s Volunteer Service Award
This award is issued on behalf of the President of the United States to encourage all Americans to improve their communities through volunteer service and civic participation. The award is given to families, individuals, and groups (both girl and adult) that have demonstrated outstanding efforts over a 12-month period. Go to www.presidentialserviceawards.gov to learn more. The Congressional Award
This is awarded by the U.S. Congress and is open to all 14- to 23-year olds. Participants can earn Bronze, Silver, and Gold Congressional Award Certificates and medals. The award honors girls for achieving their own challenging goals. Go to www.congressionalaward.org for more information.

Young Achievers and Leaders of Tomorrow
Sponsored by the International Leadership Network, these awards honor students in grades 5-10 for Young Achievers and grade 11 for Leaders of Tomorrow.
